Dungeness (Kent)     27 Jan., 2019
Keywords: Wind power generator, Nuclear power generator, Spit, land reclamation

I visited to Dungeness to observe spit and nuclear power generator on it.

Dungeness is located on cuspate foreland in the south-eastern coast of Britain Island adjacent to English Channel (Fig. 1).

Fig. 1. Location of Dungeness.

Gravel and sand spread on the ground there. The wind is very strong and a lot of wind turbines are built (Fig. 2).

Not only wind power generators, but also nuclear power plant are built in this city (Fig. 3).

The plant is located near the beach which face to English Channel without any shore protections.

It looks danger but the beach is now glowing (170 m from 1940 to 2013 in eastern side)(Fig. 5).

The Beach nourishment is essential to the safety of the plant. On the other hand, coast lines where Japanese power plants are located in are protected by embankment made from concrete because most of Japanese coast is being eroded due to dams construction after 1970’s.
